Plant Questions:

#1 -- Is it possible that plant parts “compete” for resources? (Sunlight, water, carbon dioxide)

Answer:
Have you ever seen a tree leaves dead on one side and not the other because only one side gets a majority of the sunlight?
Or even a plant could have that same problem.
Does that mean that plant parts actually compete for resources?
Well this is somewhat of a crazy thought, that a plant would compete with itself for resources.
Plants sometimes can compete with each other for resources so that they can reproduce, but ultimately the answer is No in a single plant or tree the plant parts do not compete for resources. The plant parts will use the resources such as water, light, carbon dioxide to enhance the overall plant fitness so that it can survive.

#2 - This is a great question for the younger students...

#3 -- Where do seeds come from and what three things do all seeds have in common?

Seeds are produced in the ovary , in the central part of the flower. As the ovary ripens, its seeds become enveloped either by a fruity pulp, a pod, or a shell, depending on the kind of plant.

All seeds have 1.) a protective seed cover (or coat)
2.) a baby plant (or embryo)
3.) a food supply (cotyledon) that nourishes the seed as it pushes up through the soil and grows into a young plant

Amphibians Questions:

1.) What is an amphibian?

answer: An animal that spends part of its life in water and part on land. A cold blooded vertebrate that has a heart with 3 chambers and hibernates in the winter, usually burrowing itself in the mud or ground. Adult amphibians breath through lungs but can also absorb oxygen through their skin.. Amphibians have many qualities and properties of fish as well as reptiles causing them to represent an interesting evolutionary link between the two. Frogs, toads, and salamanders are the main kinds.

2.) What are the five steps of a frogs life cylce?
